Drift 1 - Algorithmic Walk

I started my Drift 1 at the Intersection of Juneau and Milwaukee by MSOE. I walked south to start and at the next lighted intersection I followed whichever direction was available to cross. My path can be seen here on google maps. Once on the page, the map is under "drifting."

Drift 1 Sounds - Gulls

I noticed on my walk that even in the 5-degree weather, there was still an abundance of birds. Small flocks of gulls, geese, sparrows, and all different types of birds seemingly were everywhere. Occasionally I would find a bush or tree just full of sparrows chirping away. In this clip, I found a single Gull overhead, probably roosting in her nest. Naturally, the low hum of the Milwaukee afternoon is heard in the background.

Drift 1 Sounds - City and Geese

I was walking over the East State Street Bridge when I decided I wanted a generic sound of the city. I didn't want buses zipping by or people up close, rather a distant sound of Milwaukee. I was toying around with Audacity and found that the hum of the city and mid-day traffic sounds obscured when effects were added (my favorite being super slow motion) . In the clip here, You here the hum of the city alongside some geese that were hanging out on the frozen Milwaukee River.

Drift 1 Sounds - Alarm

I was getting a bit cold during my field recording on Wisconsin Ave. when I decided to go into Grand Avenue Mall for a bit. I wasn't exactly sure what I was looking for so I turned on my Mic and walked around. I was walking past one of the stores when two older individuals were stopped by the security alarms at the entrance of the store. The voices you hear alongside the alarm are those of the shoppers and employees, heard here.

Drift 1 Sounds - Overhead Airplane

As I was walking downtown, a commercial jet was flying overhead. I heard a handful of airplanes that day and recorded them with multiple coordinating sounds (i.e.- birds, cars, etc.). In this clip here, I tried to isolate the plane by itself so I could possibly go back and add effects later.

Drift 1 Sounds - Ice Skating

I was walking alongside Water Street when I came across the seasonal ice rink outside of the Starbucks. I asked a couple if they could ice skate around for a while so I could record them. In the clip here, you can hear one of the individuals skating by, the outdoor music in the background, as well as the hum of the Water Street traffic.
